事发于吉迪亚史密夫红木州立公园附近一处茂林，一棵高一百七十五尺的红木倒在公路上，压中一辆汽车。当时来自北加小镇怀里卡的夫妇积西卡与积克活鲁夫正开车驶经上址，以庆祝积西卡的四十五岁生日。

公路巡警冈萨尼斯说，不知道大树倒下的原因︰「这是树木非常茂盛的地方，我们到处都有树。」
