(Measles virus was brought to Australia from Asia to sound the measles alarm)

After an adult in Brisbane was diagnosed with measles disease (very contagious), the measles alarm has been sounded throughout Brisbane. According to the Queensland Health Department, after the measles patient arrived in Brisbane from the Philippines on a Qantas flight, many people were placed at risk of contracting measles.

It is understood that the passenger with measles arrived in Brisbane from the Philippines on a Qantas plane (who had also been to Sydney before). Authorities said that passengers on the same day’s flight were likely to be infected during the flight or when they went to the IGA in Cairns. Professor Brad McCall of Metro South Hospital and Public Health Services said that all Brisbane residents must be vigilant, especially those who have been in contact with people carrying the virus on airplanes or IGA.

It is reported that the symptoms of measles usually appear 10 days after being infected. Symptoms include fever, cough, and runny nose. A few days later, symptoms such as red spotted rash and eye pain will also occur.
