The Minister of Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs David Coleman officially issued Media Releases:fromFrom July 2019, 11,Gold Coast and PerthFormally joined the definition of remote areas!

In other words, starting from November 11, all of Australia exceptSydney, Melbourne, BrisbaneAll areas outside will become'remote areas'!This also allows many friends who have'psychological grievances' about the term'remote areas' to understand the fact that'remote areas are not partial'!

对于此前公布的将有2.3万配额用于偏远地区签证——包括偏远地区雇主担保类签证和偏远地区技术类签证,目前也已经证实将再增加2000配额至2.5万配额,但官方并未明确新增加的2,000个配额是从16万的总配额上再增加还是将减少其他签证类别的配额而保持总配额仍然为16万。

Relevant incentive policies under the new definition

According to the new definition of remote areas,

Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Canberra Newcastle/Lake Macquarie, Wollongong/Illawarra Geelong, Hobart These areas have become major remote areas (regional centres). In addition to the 2.5 quota for visas for remote areas, the relevant incentive policies include the following:

  • Priority in processing visas for remote areas
  • Can apply for positions on the ROL (Regional Occupations List) form
  • International students who graduated from universities in remote areas can be eligible to apply for a PSW visa for one more year (except for master research and PhD graduates, the general PSW visa is valid for only 2 years)

In addition to the regions listed above (not including the three major cities of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane), the following incentives can be obtained:

  • Can use the 2.5 quota for visas in remote areas
  • Priority in processing visas for remote areas
  • Can apply for positions on the ROL (Regional Occupations List) form
  • International students who graduated from universities in remote areas can be eligible to apply for a PSW visa for one more year (except for master research and PhD graduates, the general PSW visa is valid for only 2 years)
  • Priority in the negotiation of DAMAs immigration agreement (Designation Area Migration Agreements)
