This year's daylight saving time starts at 10 am this Sunday (October 4). Most Australians will enjoy an extra hour of sunshine, but will also lose an hour of sleep.

Residents in NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Capital Region need to move the clock forward one hour.

However, Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not implement daylight saving time.

The beginning of daylight saving time means that Sydney and Melbourne will be one hour earlier than Brisbane, one and a half hours earlier than Darwin, and three hours earlier than Perth.

Most smart phone devices and computers automatically adjust the time.

Daylight saving time ends on April 2021, 4.
