After a female cleaner in a quarantine hotel in Queensland was found to be infected with a British variant of the virus (COVID19), the Premier of Queensland announced that it would impose a three-day lockdown on the Greater Brisbane area.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Australian Governor Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Friday: "We will act early and go all out."
The lockdown area will cover Brisbane’s Metro North (Metro North), Metro South (Metro South), Metro West (Metro West), Moreton Hospital and Health Services (Moreton Hospital and Health Services), Brisbane Lisbon’s local government jurisdictions, Ipswich, Moreton, Logan and Redlands.
The lockdown period starts at 1 o'clock in the evening on Friday (January 8) and lasts until 6 o'clock in the evening on the following Monday.
Residents in all these areas must stay at home, Palche said: "Just think of it as spending a long weekend at home."
Palche said that a three-day lockdown could prevent a 30-day lockdown based on the advice of Queensland Health Director Jeannette Young.
It is suggested that residents in the affected areas can leave their homes to do necessary work, provide medical services for necessary people, carry out necessary shopping, or exercise in the local community; but those who go out must wear masks, which is mandatory .
Palche said: "These are tough and powerful measures. As I said, (this virus) is incredibly contagious."
On Friday, nine cases of infection were recorded in Queensland, all from returnees who had been isolated from hotels.
