Ms Berejiklian said on Monday that her government will continue to help Australians "go home from overseas."
"We have been running a strong hotel quarantine system for nearly a year, and more than 13 people have entered the country through our system," Ms. Berejiklian said: "No matter where the quarantine system is. The risk always exists."
The intensified screening measures are to support the gradual opening of international borders — possibly as early as the last quarter of this year — and to ensure that Australia can open green channels with countries that have contained the virus and implemented vaccine programs.
The Australian Border Service stated that a large number of foreigners arriving in Australia included immediate family members and permanent residents of Australian citizens.Other travelers arriving in the home country include special categories of people, visitors, skilled persons, spouses and transit visas.
"Some don't even have a registered address; some are dubious. Who let them in?"
Senior sources in the Morrison government refuted these claims and said border inspection measures are very strict. The office of the Border Guard Committee Michael Outram evaluates each arrival individually. This is not a "tick and finish process."
Mr. Frydenberg said on Monday that the Cabinet agreed that “we need to continue to be open to Australians returning home”.
"We need to be as open as possible in a COVID-safe way, which means ensuring that we have an isolation system and that the system is effective," the finance minister said.
